2019 River Bend Film Festival | Goshen, Indiana
GOSHEN, IND. –– Get ready to roll out the red carpet for Goshen’s annual cinematic showcase! Event organizers have announced the schedule for the 2019 River Bend Film Festival, set for May 2-4 at multiple venues in downtown Goshen.

The 2019 festival will have a special focus on Indiana filmmakers, according to Adrienne Nesbitt, director of events for Eyedart Creative Studio.

“Our state has a rich movie-making tradition, and we want to celebrate that,” Nesbitt said.

Legendary film director – and onetime Goshen resident – Howard Hawks will be part of that focus. His 1940 film “His Girl Friday,” starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, will be screened at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, at The Goshen Theater.

The late Hawks’ work had a big impact on modern filmmakers, Nesbitt noted.

“When Quentin Tarantino (“Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Django Unchained”), talks about his influences, he talks about Howard Hawks,” she said.

The work of Indiana filmmakers will also be featured during two blocks of short films. Those screenings are set for Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at The Goshen Theater.

The 2019 River Bend Film Festival will also emphasize documentary filmmaking. “Don’t Be Nice,” a film about five African-American, Afro-Hispanic, and queer poets will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at The Goshen Theater. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with producer Nikhil Melnechuk on the theater stage. “This Is Love,” a film about R&B musicians Rudy Love & The Love Family, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, at The Goshen Theater. The film will be followed by a Q&A session with producer and former Goshen College student Shawn Rhodes on the theater stage.

Other full-length and short film screenings, along with workshops, meet-and-greets, roundtable discussions, and Q&A sessions, will round out the three-day festival.

“Goshen’s vibrant downtown is the perfect setting to showcase exciting, engaging filmmaking,” Nesbitt said. “And River Bend Film Festival organizers are looking forward to the best event yet!”
